For everyone currently shocked and awed by Marvel’s upcoming James Gunn-directed film Guardians of the Galaxy but have no idea who the titular characters are or what they do, here is a reader’s guide for getting acquainted with the characters and stories the film will deal with. While an updated version of the team created by Brian Michael Bendis and Scott McLiven was released earlier this year, I would not advise it as a gateway to Cosmic Marvel as it will be presented in Guardians. It is not an accurate representation of the characters as they have been used in the past and so far as can be seen, how they will be used in Guardians.
Some of the news channels, they were bleeping the word “cracker” like it’s the N word. You know what, if you think “cracker” is the same thing as saying “nigger,” you’re a cracker.

"Racism is okay so long as it isn’t my race being insulted." Grow up.
Too many unnecessary changes to the source material and too large of a tone shift between films for me to get excited for this one. Incredibly disappointing thus far, but I’ll save serious criticisms for when I actually see more than two minutes of footage… hopefully it’ll be better than what I’m expecting.

Yeah man, to hell with the books. That “white savior bullshit.” When in history have dark-skinned slaves ever been freed of their status by light-skinned people?
More importantly, when in the source material this program is drawing from did that happen? Oh yeah, about halfway through Book Three.

I can’t be the only one that’s going to name their protagonist and every Pokemon after characters from Les Mis, right?

Greetings, true believers! Like many of you I’m a big fan of the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU) produced by Kevin Feige and currently beginning Phase Two of its course with the release of Iron Man 3 last Friday. However, does that mean that it’s too early to speculate and project what we’d like to see in Phase Three of Marvel Studios’ excellent project? Of course not. So I’ve assembled a lineup of films that I feel would be most appropriate and successful in expanding the MCU over the next few years, based on my personal preferences, the input of fellow fans, and what information I’ve been able to glean about Marvel Studios’ inner workings. Without further ado, let’s get started with an overview of the state of Phases One through Three in my speculative projection.
I’ve taken the liberty of assuming some elements about “locked” films in Phase Two to help set things up for Phase Three - don’t accept any of my speculation as fact of what Marvel Studios is planning. I want it to be abundantly clear that none of this is fact and that it should not be spread around as “strong rumors”. Let’s move on with the blurbs.
I saw maybe 80 to 100 guys read for Peter Quill…
We saw a lot of very famous guys for the role, a lot of very well-known people, and very, very good actors. We saw a lot of good performances, but it wasn’t until Chris came in and he read and I was like, ‘oh my God’, this guy has his own, very particular, amazing take on the character that blew my mind, blew me away. Then I thought, this is the first guy I could see sharing the screen with Robert Downey Jr and giving him a run for his money.
